Over the past decades, the call to ban fur trade has gotten louder and louder. Now that the fashion industry can produce alternatives sans the inhumane process of breeding animals, placing them in small cages, and skinning them for human clothing, there is zero need for fur trade to exist.
Top fashion designers from Great Britain have signified their intent to stop fur trade, signing a letter to the Prime Minister to support the cause. Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, and Hannah Weiland cited the weakening interest for products made of fur, particularly in the UK high-end market, shares Remi Landau. In addition, the designers mentioned that the business made from the fur industry isn’t aligned with the ethical move of numerous organizations and brands that comprise the British fashion industry.
Israel is the first country to emerge successful in the battle against fur trade. Former Minister for Environmental Protection Gila Gamliel mentioned that the industry is responsible for the death of hundreds of millions of animals throughout the world. The Ministry of Environmental Protection has signed regulations to eliminate the slaughter of animals for fur coats, making the Israeli fashion retail industry environmentally friendly and more compassionate to animals.
According to Remi Landau, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, encourages designers to end the practice. Designers whose fur-free work includes Calvin Klein, Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ralph Lauren, with many to follow suit.
